Executive Summary

Misinformation harms society, but for people with disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria—already facing falsehoods about the causes and effects of disability—it is especially damaging.

A 2025 Media InnoTech survey explored how PWDs experience information disorder online. Conducted via Google Form between April 17 and June 17, it drew 91 responses from Nigeria, Zambia, Togo, and Benin. Of these, 90% said they often encountered misinformation on social media, while 41.8% admitted they had believed false information. The findings show PWDs are moderately prone to online misinformation and need stronger media literacy support.

Falsehoods shape how PWDs are viewed, how they see themselves, and the support they receive. Addressing this requires inclusive digital literacy and targeted policy action to ensure no one is left behind.
